Philly Taco - The CheeseSteak Pizza Combo
In South Philadelphia, hungry booze hounds looking for an alcohol-absorbing snack after the bars close have popularized the Philly Taco, one of the city’s famous cheesesteaks wrapped up inside of a big slice of cheese pizza.
How to create the Philly Taco :
- CheeseSteak
- Pizza
Lay an entire cheesesteak on top of a large slice of pizza. Line up the cheesesteak parallel to the pizza crust and simply roll it over the cheesesteak, up to the point of your slice.
If you happen to be in South Philadelphia:
- Order a slice of pizza from Lorenzo’s Pizza (near 3rd & South). Their slices are large & delicious.
- Walk less than a block to Jim’s Cheesesteaks at 4th & South (their cheesesteaks are delicious & the proximity is essential so both ingredients are hot).
- At Jim’s Cheesesteaks, order “Prov wit, whiz on top”. This sexy intermingling of cheese provides the stretchiness of provolone while simultaneously fulfilling the need for whiz’s creamy mushiness. Also, fried onions are a no-brainer with this combination.
- Put them together and enjoy!

Make that a cheesesteak hoagie rather than just a plain cheesesteak. You’ll get the lettuce and tomatoes too. Also don’t order the cheese whiz. That’s crap and it’s not even real cheese anyway. Make it either provolone or american cheese and toss the bread for less carbs and add the contents to the pizza.
